I have always been a huge fan of finding and hiring talented graduates for our businesses. It still amazes me what bright young people can achieve with very little professional experience. They provide energy, optimism and a can do approach that greater life experience can sometimes dull.
In global surveys London is apparently now regarded as the most attractive place to work for young people. This offers SME’s like ourselves a fantastic pool of global talent and enables us to compete with much bigger companies.
It strikes me that the recruitment approach used by blue chips in hiring grads can only be to our advantage. Online application forms are leading to a one size fits all approach and it really does mean that for many talented young people the computer often really does say no. Do these companies really want people who are all the same? We look for people who have different perspectives and we value their differences – it’s a key part of our success.
